Matthew has welcomed the installation of two pedestrian islands on Aerodrome Road in Colindale. Following a meeting with residents in April, Matthew asked Barnet Council to provide a place for local people to cross. The pedestrian islands have been installed down from the bridge - one opposite Rowan Drive and one opposite Heritage Avenue.
Matthew said: "At one of my regular MP Direct meetings, local residents told me that the development of the area has resulted in many more people walking to the Tube station, visiting local pubs and restaurants or simply walking their dog, and there was a need for places to cross the road. Being a local resident myself, I have found crossing the road difficult at times and imagine that elderly people or those with children would really struggle, so I am delighted that the work has now been completed. This is exactly the kind of issue that I was talking about when I recently asked the Prime Minister about regeneration areas in Parliament".
At Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday 18th June Matthew asked the Prime Minister:
"Will the Prime Minister advise my constituents what action the Government is taking to ensure that areas of regeneration, such as Colindale in my constituency receive the necessary public service infrastructure to support the increase in population?"
The Prime Minister responded by saying:
"My hon. Friend makes an important point. Obviously, things such as the new homes bonus have helped to make sure that local authorities can put infrastructure in place. We have revised and strengthened new planning guidance to ensure that infrastructure is provided to support new development. My hon. Friend will also know that, as a result of the recent award of the Thameslink franchise, there will be new rolling stock on the line and that by the end of 2018 there will be over 3,000 more seats on trains running through Hendon at peak times, which I hope is welcome to his constituents."
