The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is seeking to expand the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to the whole of Greater London. Vehicles that do not comply with the emissions limit will be required to pay £12.50 per day to drive anywhere in the Borough of Barnet.
Matthew is calling on the Mayor, Barnet's Labour Assembly Member, and the Labour Leader of Barnet Council to rethink this policy at a time when people are already struggling with the risking cost of living.
Matthew says: "I want to improve the air quality in London as much as anyone but this is the wrong proposal at the wrong time with people anxious about the cost of living.
"There is no indication that the expansion will deliver the environmental benefits the Mayor claims but it will have a detrimental impact on our town centres and make employment in outer London boroughs less attractive."
