Protests have occurred recently in London and elsewhere which have promoted extremist sentiments and incited hatred against specific communities in our country.
The conflict in Gaza has generated actions across Britain which have created a climate conducive to extremism. It has caused individuals, families and businesses to feel threatened and fearful for their safety. This is not acceptable in a country which has always prided itself on mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths, beliefs and cultures.
I am pressing the Government to take effective action to tackle the threat posed by extremism wherever it may be perpetrated, whether by the left or the right, by individuals, groups or religions. Extremism threatens to undermine the very values of freedom, democracy and rule of law by which we in Britain live.
I want a new definition of extremism which will outlaw the propagation of ideologies which glorify terrorism and stir up religious, racial or cultural hatred.
In order for me to make the strongest possible case, I am asking residents of the Hendon constituency to sign the petition below by 31st December 2023.
I intend to present the petition to the Home Secretary in Parliament and the more signatures I have, the better I will be able to demonstrate the strength of support for tackling the threat posed by extremism.
