"Last night's events have shocked the country. The targeting of young people in a terrorist attack is beyond horrific. Very few of us can imagine what the parents and friends of those who were at the concert are going through and our thoughts must remain with them.

"In the last year we have experienced three horrific events: the murder of MP Jo Cox, the attack at Parliament in March which resulted in five deaths and last night's attack. However, we must remember that our security services have prevented a far greater number of terrorist incidents. We must all remain vigilant and if we see anything suspicious contact the police on 101 - or in an emergency dial 999.

"As a consequence of last night's appalling events, I will not be campaigning in the Hendon constituency today as a mark of respect for those who have tragically lost their lives."
