Matthew has slammed Jeremy Corbyn's refusal to condemn IRA violence and murders throughout the troubles in Northern Ireland. Speaking to Northern Ireland Secretary of State James Brokenshire during a visit to Hendon, Matthew said such refusal is an affront to all the innocent victims who lost their lives to terrorism.
Matthew also criticised the Labour leader's decision to vote in Parliament against the 1985 Anglo-Irish Agreement, the first step toward what became the Northern Ireland peace process.
Matthew said: "We know that Jeremy Corbyn refers to Hamas as 'our friends' but this latest interview with him shows how weak the Labour leader is on terrorism. Voting against the Anglo-Irish Agreement would have prolonged the conflict and caused more deaths and suffering. It is clear that a vote for Labour at this election will put our nation’s security and people's lives at risk.”
