Matthew has asked an urgent question to the Home Office on UK nationals returning from Syria.
The urgent question follows recent media reports of Shamima Begum, a UK national wishing to return to the UK after leaving for Syria in 2015 to join Daesh.
Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, responded to the urgent question and stated: "If you back terror, there must be consequences."
He also informed the House that the Counter Terrorism and Border Security Act, passed last week, gives the government greater powers by extending the list of offences the Government is able to act on.
Matthew responded to the Home Secretary and said that the case of Shamima Begum highlighted the problems facing the British Government, as she was a British National and as such, could not be denied re-entry.
He went on to question the Home Secretary on how many British Nationals who have travelled to Syria have been prosecuted, and what offences they were charged with.
