Matthew has visited several schools in the Hendon constituency to see for himself the problems caused by parents as they drop off their children at the school gates.
Inconsiderate and/or illegal parking in the vicinity of schools during morning drop off and afternoon pick up are a constant cause of complaints.
Parking illegally or inconsiderately not only causes inconvenience to local residents and undermines the school's efforts to be a good neighbour but creates road safety issues, including danger to pedestrians crossing roads.
Pupil members of the School Council at Deansbrook Infant School showed Matthew the problems they experience at their school entrance. While at the school Matthew spoke to two parents who parked on the school's zig zag lines and left their vehicle.
Matthew said: "It's ironic that it is parents of the school's own children who put the rest of the children's lives at risk by parking indescriminately or in illegal places. At the beginning of next term I shall be re-visiting the school to see if parents have listened to the request given by the school for parents and other motorists to park safely."
Residents in Wellingborough have been given traffic comes by their local council in an effort to stop parents parking in front of dropped curbs or on dangerous junctions and Matthew will be exploring this possibility with Barnet Council to end the practice of dangerous school parking.
