Residents of Ellesmere Avenue in Mill Hill are having their lives blighted by HGV lorries and other large vehicles which have been misusing the service road from the M1.
Matthew took the matter up with Connect Plus Services - the organisation responsible for managing the land on behalf of the Department for Transport - and they have informed him that they will install a Crash Rated Security Gate to replace the ‘road blockers’ which were there previously and were regularly damaged by unauthorised road users at a cost £4,000 a time to repair.
The Security Gate will be supported by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and a CCTV camera system.
A database of authorised users will be created and Connect Plus Services expect works to start in the summer.
Matthew said: "I visited Ellesmere Avenue personally and the situation is not acceptable. However, I believe the measures planned by Connect Plus Services will prevent unauthorised drivers using the road as a thoroughfare and if I am re-elected Member of Parliament on 8th June I will monitor the situation to ensure the work takes place."
