Matthew has welcomed the announcement that Menorah Foundation School in Burnt Oak has been selected as one of the latest schools that will be substantially refurbished as part of the fourth round of the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme.
The programme will provide funding to transform 500 schools across England, delivering on the Government’s commitment to level up opportunity around the country by giving every child access to the best classrooms, wherever they go to school.
Each school in the programme has been selected based on the condition of its buildings, making sure the greatest improvements are delivered for schools that need them the most and maximising children’s chances to gain the skills and knowledge they need.
The new buildings will be more energy efficient for future winter resilience, helping schools keep bills down and meeting Net Zero commitments.
Matthew said: "Menorah Foundation School is providing an exceptional education for its pupils but there are problems with the building. The assembly hall and four classroom ceilings have already been replaced due to structural issues associated with excess condensation. The Victorian construction has very poor energy efficiency that means it costs a significant amount to heat the buildings. There is a lack of toilet facilities that needs urgent attention. It is a testament to the teachers and governors that they have achieved such outstanding results given the facilities available, but I am pleased that the Department of Education has recognised the necessity for the work. The next year will be an exciting one for the school."
