Matthew has warmly welcomed the announcement that Colindale Station has provisionally been awarded a share of the Government’s Levelling Up Fund in the second round of applications.
Colindale is an area of regeneration and growth and the population is set to increase by 35% over the next twenty years. 5,000 new homes have so far been delivered within a development pipeline of 10,000 up to 2036. Colindale, therefore, will continue to grow, maintaining its position as one of the biggest growth areas in north London.
It is, however, an area of high deprivation and the proposed scheme will deliver a series of high impact improvements including step-free access facilities, an expanded gate line and a design approach that will facilitate future housing and commercial growth in the area. The redevelopment will be delivered by a collaboration between Network Rail, Transport for London and the Department for Transport. The final funding will be allocated following further business case approval.
Matthew said: “I am delighted that Colindale Station has provisionally been awarded a share of the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. The proposed scheme is integral to the Government’s levelling up agenda and I was pleased to support the bid for the redevelopment which will lead to increased economic growth, reductions in carbon emissions and improved safety, security and overall experience of public transport users.”
