Matthew was delighted to attend a performance of the award-winning Yugpurush Drama, jointly hosted by the High Commission of India.
The central tenet of the play is the story of the fascinating relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his spiritual guide Shrimad Rajchandraji, and promotes the values of truth, non-violence and compassion.
Performances over the opening weekend attracted over 2,750 people in London and the tour now continues with shows in Birmingham, Ilford, Croydon, Manchester and Leicester.
The net proceeds of the tour will go towards the construction of a 250-bed charity hospital, aiming to provide much needed benefit to the underprivileged in one of the poorest areas of South Gujarat in India. The hospital hopes to treat up to 95,000 patients annually with a further 150,000 people through its outreach programme.
Matthew said "The play was really informative about the relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and Shrimad Rajchandraji. This is not a well-known story but one which had a great impact on the history of India. The bonus of the tour of Yugpurush is that it will help thousands of people who will be treated when the new hospital is constructed. That really is showing compassion to others in the spirit of Mahatma and Shrimad."
