Addressing residents in Edgware Matthew took the opportunity to speak about the progress our economy has made under Conservative-led Governments.
Matthew said: "In 2010 Labour left Britain in the grip of an economic crisis. Seven years of Conservative-led government has turned our country around. Labour's deficit has been cut by almost two thirds, employment is up by nearly 3 million, and last year our economy grew faster than all but one other major advanced economy.
"Here in the Hendon constituency a typical basic rate taxpayer now pays over £1,000 LESS income tax than when the Conservatives came to power in 2010 and the personal tax allowance will increase to £12,500 by 2020. This means lower taxes for around 57,000 people in this constituency. In addition, pensioners with a full basic State Pension will receive over £1,250 a year more in 2017/18 than at the start of the last Parliament.
He continued: "Jeremy Corbyn, however, plans to raise taxes to their highest level since 1949. He would also hike capital gains tax, take the family home out of inheritance tax, and expand a tax on the sale of some shares which would hit pensioners’ savings. His plans would undermine our economic recovery and leave ordinary people to pay the price.
"A strong economy is vital if we are to make a success of our Brexit negotiations and be in a position to invest in schools, transport, the NHS and new housing. It is clear that will only be achieved by a future Conservative Government."
