Matthew says: "It was a great pleasure to sponsor the outstanding exhibition of photographs "A Vision of Cyprus" by my constituent Doros Partasides at the House of Commons.
"Having grown up in Cyprus, and revisiting regularly, Doros' presents his viewers with a unique insight into the emotive world of Cyprus through photographs of the people and landscapes. His collection of the scenery of Cyprus show the varying archeology, culture and traditions of the island and they came together in this exhibition to portray a narrative of its history and current happenings.
"Doros' work is a true representation of his personal philosophy that, whilst one photograph is often said to contain one thousand words, for Doros 'one thousand photographs come together to create one word – Cyprus.'"
Doros Partasides was born in Cyprus in 1944 and joined the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation's film unit as a cameraman in 1966. He and his family moved to the UK following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 where he has continued to work as a London correspondent and cameraman for CyBC. He has produced some of Cyprus' most memorable documentaries and his photographs regularly appear in the British and European press.
The exhibition was opened by Minister for Europe, Rt Hon David Lidington MP (pictured centre)
