Matthew was delighted that Mayor of London Boris Johnson accepted his invitation to see the work being undertaken at The Boys Clubhouse in Hendon. The charity helps teenage boys in the Jewish community who have been or are at risk of being excluded from school, or who are not in education or employment.
Over 150 boys have been helped by the Club through mentoring, activities, careers advice and therapy. Boris opened the new business unit, took part in one the the Club's business initiatives by packaging merchanise for posting, and played pool against some of the boys.
Matthew then took the Mayor to meet business people from across the constituency at The Pillar Hotel in Brent Street where he spoke about his plans for London and answered questions on a range of topics including cyclists' safety, Crossrail, business rates, primary school places, radicalisation of young people, and recycling.
Matthew said: "The Mayor was clearly impressed by the excellent work being undertaken by The Boys Clubhouse which is unique in London. I was also pleased to be able to give local business people and education representatives an opportunity to discuss a range of issues and ideas with London's leading political figure."
