Matthew is celebrating an extra £160 million funding for the innovative Cancer Drugs Fund established by this Government. This means more patients will get access to the latest and best cancer drugs.
The Cancer Drugs Fund was set up in 2011 to pay for cancer medicines which are not routinely available on the NHS. The Fund has already secured world-class and life-enhancing cancer drugs for over 55,000 patients.
Matthew said: “This is fantastic news. The Cancer Drugs Fund has helped a huge number of people in England who would previously have been denied access to life-enhancing treatments due to the high cost of cancer drugs.
“Unfortunately in Wales, where Labour control the money spent on health, a commitment to a similar programme has not been made which means patients are being denied access to these cancer drugs.
"I’m proud that the Conservative-run Government has introduced the Cancer Drugs Fund and will have increased NHS spending by over £12 billion by 2015."
