Matthew has warmly welcomed today's Queen's Speech which placed a vision for a country of security and opportunity at the heart of the new Conservative Government's legislative programme.
Amongst the measures outlined there will be:
- More tax cuts, including an increase in the tax free allowance to ensure people working 30 hours a week on the minimum wage will not pay any income tax, and deliver a five-year tax lock that will mean there will be no income tax, VAT or National Insurance rises in this Parliament.
- A referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union by the end of 2017.
- Further controls on immigration by limiting access to public services, taking action against employers who do not play by the rules, and removing more people with no right to be here.
- More free schools and academies, raising standards and improving opportunities for children.
- Doubling of free childcare to 30 hours for three and four-year-olds.
- An extension to the Right to Buy to tenants of housing associations and new measures to boost housebuilding.
- Help for small businesses by cutting red tape by £10 billion over the next five years.
Matthew said: "This Queen's Speech is a clear vision for our country and the people of Hendon. I believe strongly that everyone, whoever they are and wherever they come from, should have the chance of a good education, a decent job, a home of their own, the security to raise a family and the peace of mind to enjoy their retirement. Our ambition is to build one nation where people who do the right thing, work hard and save for their future have the opportunity to enjoy the high quality of life they deserve."
