Matthew visited the Holocaust Survivors Centre in Hendon to speak to visitors about the forthcoming General Election.
Fielding a range of questions, Matthew was asked about anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, the possibility of a visit to Israel by the Queen, and concerns about security – both in London and on the streets of Hendon.
Matthew told the audience how he accompanied then Prime Minister David Cameron on a trip to Israel after he invited him to visit the country at Prime Ministers Questions in the House of Commons. “Sitting in a suite in the King David Hotel with the UK Prime Minister late at night was one of the highlights of being a Member of Parliament”, Matthew told those present.
Matthew also talked about the debate in Parliament on Holocaust Memorial Day, when he spoke of Hendon resident Renee Salt, who was present at the meeting.
