Matthew was delighted to be elected as the new Parliamentary Chairman of the Conservative Friends of Cyprus this week.

At the first Board meeting of the group since the General Election, Parliamentarians and officers gathered to discuss important issues such as reunification and the ongoing negotiations.

Also in attendance was the former MP for Enfield Southgate and former Parliamentary Chairman David Burrowes, who was praised for his service to the community during his 12 years in Westminster.

At the meeting, the group discussed plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Conservative Friends of Cyprus, which is being marked this year, as well as the desire for strong bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom.

Matthew said: “I am delighted to be elected as the new Chairman of the Conservative Friends of Cyprus Parliamentary Group.

“As the group marks its 25th Anniversary this year, it’s vital to recognise all the important work that it has done to champion the rights of the Cypriot community in the UK as well as the rights of Cypriots in their own country.

“However, there is more work to do and I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue the efforts for reunification and reaffirm our commitment in helping reach a just solution for the island.”
