Matthew joined volunteers from the Give It Forward Today (GIFT) charity at Mill Hill Synagogue to pack food, clothes and other necessities for the people of Ukraine. Boxes were constructed before being packed with the goods and loaded onto a lorry to make the journey overseas.
Parts of Ukraine are home to large Jewish communities so the goods are being delivered to Odessa in time for Passover. Dried Pesach food and drink - including matzah, crackers, condiments, grapejuice, cakes, biscuits, and tuna, along with toiletries and toys - have been collected from over fifty different locations in the UK, collated in Mill Hill and sent to the people of Ukraine.
Matthew said: “It is humbling that so many people have donated goods and their time to help people suffering in Ukraine. The conflict has shown us the worst of humanity but the efforts of GIFT also demonstrates the best. The period of Passover means so much to Judaism so this delivery will mean everything to the people of Odessa.”
